Oh. I know.
Andrew and I went to Quincy, IL last weekend. Andrew used to play summer ball (baseball) there when we were in college. We actually went to surprise his host family (the family he stayed with while playing ball) who we hadn't seen in about 4 years. They had sent us a graduation invite for their son who was graduating from high school so we knew they'd be home.
Anyway, our plan was to leave on Saturday morning - it takes about 3 hours to drive to Quincy - spend the night at a hotel (which we didn't make reservations for) and drive back Sunday afternoon. Throughout the entire week we thought the grad party was on Saturday from 1-6 p.m. but before we left on Saturday morning, I thought I'd better check the info one more time. Sure enough, the party was on Sunday, not Saturday. No big deal really, but I'm glad we knew that before showing up at their house unexpectedly.
Anyway, we stuck to the plan and left Saturday morning. Andrew thankfully remembered how to get to their home (which is somewhat out in the country) and we pulled up infront of their property around noon. As we made our way down their long driveway (still driving in our car) we could see Rob (Andrew's "host" dad) standing in the driveway talking on his cell phone. He had a puzzled look on his face like "I wonder who that is coming down my driveway?" As we pulled up right next to him, you could see him mouth "Oh my! It's the Farmer's!" It was great.
The weekend turned out to be wonderful. We enjoy their family so much and we were thrilled to get to spend a weekend with them. Though we definitely dropped in during a busy weekend with the grad party and all, they still invited to spend the night (good thing we are procrastinaters and didn't make the hotel reservation), they took us out to dinner, and they stayed up late visiting, laughing and telling stories with us. Thankfully they welcomed the extra hands when it came to preparing for the party on Sunday so Andrew and I were able to help out with yard work and running errands. And Sid was such a good boy over the weekend too - he even slept all night in his pack-n-play!
Rob and Barb have two children, Katelyn and Andrew, and one son in Heaven. Oddly enough, two years ago we we called to tell them about losing our first son (at this time we didn't know they had lost a child), they informed us that their first child passed away from the same condition (which is Bilateral Renal Agenesis -total absense of kidneys).
Here are a few photos from the weekend.
